PowPAC is seeking a talented cast for The Wisdom of Eve, Mary Orr’s compelling backstage drama that inspired the classic film All About Eve. This sharp, suspenseful play pulls back the curtain on the theatrical world to explore the bitter price of ambition, celebrity, and betrayal. The story follows Margo Crane, an established and brilliant Broadway star who graciously takes Eve Harrington, a seemingly naive and devoted young fan, under her wing. However, as Eve quickly embeds herself into Margo’s professional and personal inner circle, her sweet demeanor gives way to a calculated, cold-blooded drive to usurp Margo’s career and relationships. Brimming with biting wit, sophisticated dialogue, and complex, dynamic roles—particularly for powerful female actors—this production offers a gripping exploration of ruthlessness hidden behind a mask of innocence.

Audition Notes:
PowPAC welcomes and encourages actors of all ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities to submit for these roles.- PowPAC Theater is located at 13250 Poway Road, Poway, CA 92064 (Upstairs) – Elevator access in the back of the building.
- Auditions: Open call Monday, July 27th & Tuesday, July 28th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Callbacks by invitation only on Wednesday, July 29th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM (if necessary).
- Actors should attend one night of the open call and will be informed of callback invitations on Tuesday, July 28th. It's not necessary to be there the entire time on open-call nights, but please arrive at least 45 minutes before the end of the evening so we can ensure you're seen.
- Please bring an acting resume, headshot, calendar for paperwork/schedule comparison; no performance conflicts permitted.
- Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script.

Rehearsals and Performance Dates
- First cast meeting & table read will be scheduled based on cast availability, theater rehearsals begin on September 24th, 2026.
- Rehearsals will be scheduled Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
- Performances: Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 2:00 PM from Friday, November 13th, 2026 to Sunday, December 13th, 2026, including 2:00 PM Saturday matinees on November 21st and December 5th.

Plot Synopsis:
Adapted from the story by Mary Orr, on which the film All About Eve and the hit musical Applause were based. An engrossing and revealing “inside” story of life in New York’s theatre world, told in terms of an unscrupulous ingenue’s rise to Broadway stardom. When we first meet Eve Harrington, she is standing in the rain by the stage door of the theatre in which the renowned Margo Crane is starring in her latest long-run hit. Waiting for a glimpse of her professed idol, she accosts Karen Roberts, Margo’s good friend and the wife of the playwright, Lloyd Roberts, and inveigles an invitation to meet the great actress herself. The meeting leads to unexpected opportunity as Margo, struck with Eve’s “sincerity,” takes her on as a personal secretary. Before long Eve has done such a fine job of straightening out the clutter of Margo’s personal affairs that Margo, while she had always jealously resisted the engagement of an understudy for her own role, allows Eve to have the assignment. Then Eve begins to move ahead in earnest, her true character emerging as she lies, cheats and blackmails her way to Broadway stardom—and then a Hollywood career—leaving the wreckage of her friends’ trust behind her. As the play ends there are rumors that Eve has found a new “friend,” this time a movie tycoon, so it appears that perhaps we have not, for the moment, heard all there is to tell about Eve.
