In this brilliant and powerful drama about suspicion and moral certainty, Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, is an old-school nun who insists that her students not be coddled. Young Father Flynn believes the clergy should be more accessible to the parishioners. These two schools of thought come into direct conflict when Aloysius suspects Flynn of "interfering" with a young male student.
An enthusiastic young nun sets the play’s central conflict into motion when she is confronted by Aloysius and reluctantly reports damaging information about Flynn.
