Synopsis: This farce, set in a suburb of New York in 1965, revolves around the main character, Jeremy Troy, who has led his wife, his boss and his friends to believe that he is a qualified attorney. Since one of the partners in the law firm for which Jeremy works has recently died, Jeremy is hoping that he will be promoted to partner status. In an effort to charm his boss, Jeremy invites him to dinner at his home for the first time, to meet his wife, Kathryn.

Charlie Bickle, a friend whom Jeremy has not seen for several years, turns up unexpectedly at Jeremy’s home, intending to talk Jeremy into letting him stay indefinitely. Charlie is an artist who promptly hires Tina Winslow, an aspiring actress and artists' model, to come over to Jeremy’s house to sit for a portrait.

There is a merry mix-up before the important dinner date. Since Kathryn stormed out when she discovered Tina, Jeremy talks the actress/model into playing his wife just for the dinner with his boss. When Kathryn returns before dinner, she is totally confused by the situation; to explain the extra woman, Jeremy continues with his improvisation and introduces Kathryn to his boss as Charlie’s fiancé. Did we mention the snowstorm and the overnight guests?
