Audition Notes:
PowPAC welcomes and encourages actors of all ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities to submit for these roles.

  • PowPAC Theater is located at 13250 Poway Road, Poway, CA 92064     (Upstairs) – Elevator access in rear of building.

  • Auditions are Monday Sept 18 and Tuesday Sept.19, 2023 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

  • Callbacks will be by invitation Wednesday, Sept.20 from 7-9 p.m., if required.

  • The first read-through will be on Sunday Sept 24 at 7p.m.

  • Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and other media chosen by the director.

  • English accent required ONLY for the Dorothy Tree Hapgood character. No other accents required.

  • Please bring a resume of theatrical experience and a headshot.

  • Appointments not necessary.

Compensation & Union Contract Details

  • No Pay – Volunteer Organization


Rehearsals and Performance Dates:

  • Rehearsal schedule will be Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 7-10 p.m. subject to Cast availability.

  • Thursday evenings might be added within the last two (2) to three (3) weeks of rehearsals, if required.

  • Rehearsal Start Time will be 7 p.m.

  • Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. from Friday,
    November 17,2023 – Sunday, December 10, 2023.

  • Saturday, November 25 and Saturday, December 9 will have a matinee performance at 2:00 pm and an evening performance at 8:00 pm. Please note that the Saturday matinee performance on November 25 is over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.


Cast Requirements:
About the Characters:
Casting twelve (12) Performers to portray the following characters:
(Ages listed below are for reference. Director will cast based on talent.)


ZORAH BLOCH:
Female, mid- 40’s
Characteristics: Founding director of The Soapbox Playhouse. Extremely self-centered

SIDNEY CARLTON:
Male, 60’s
Characteristics: A founding member of the Company. Kind but somewhat addled.

DOROTHY TREE HAPGOOD:
Female, Sidney's wife, in her 60’s.
Characteristics-English and unable to lose her accent. A founding member.

LARRY VAUXHALL:
Male, in his 40’s.
Characteristics- Tough, intellectually vain child of the 60’s, still looking for a turn-on. A founding member.

PHIL HEWITT:
Male, in his 40’s.
Characteristics- Small, obsessive, usually plays the ineffectual character in any Soapbox production. A founding member.

WALTER E. PARSONS:
Male, a person of color, in his 30’s.
Characteristics-Recently taken up acting again after a stint in the armed forces. Good natured, but excitable.

LUTHER BEATTY:
Male, a large 11-year-old.
Characteristics-He’s been playing Tiny Tim two years too long. Extremely friendly.

KEVIN EMERY:
Male, in his 40’s
Characteristics- A nervous man in the impossible position of managing director. Afraid of Zorah.

M.J. [MARY JANE] MCMANN:
Female, in her 40’s.
Characteristics-A realist. She long ago realized that the Company hit bottom. She looks on now as a bemused observer. Founding member.

BETTY ANDREWS:
Female, in her 40’s.
Characteristics-An inspector for the National Endowment for the Arts. A forbidding appearance. Bright red hair.

BART FRANCES:
Male, a pleasant youth.
Characteristics-Dresses in a motorcycle jacket and torn jeans.

WAYNE WELLACRE:
Male, in his 30’s.
Characteristics-In search of a new career in acting, no training, less talent, affable, eager to please.
Plot Synopsis:

About the Play:
A “Christmas Carol” meets “The Inspector General" meets “Noises Off “in this hilarious hit from Seattle. A man who asks to audition at a small theater is mistaken for an inspector for the National Endowment for the Arts. Everyone caters to the bewildered wannabe actor, and he is given a role in the current production, ’A Christmas Carol.’  Everything goes wrong and hilarity is piled upon hilarity. Perfect anytime, this delight is particularly appropriate at Christmas.
Setting: A mid-sized city in the Midwest
